Immaculately kept and curated, with a staff that lives the part, this is certainly not a place for those who come to Maine for their outlets. History intertwined with nature’s beauty, Fort Williams Park is worth a quick drive over a bridge, with a breathtaking view. Discover ruins from a long maritime military history, or explore the Portland Headlight museum found at the base of the towering lighthouse. Standing on the edge of the cliff and looking out over the ocean is like looking at the edge of the world. The park offers walking trails along the cliffs edge, for the more daring, or open spaces for children and dogs to play, 90 acres of rugged beauty on Casco Bay. It’s hard not to lose track of time in all the wonders Fort Williams Park has to offer.

If you consider yourself to be more sea bearing than land, make sure to take a tour on the Casco Bay Ferry Lines. A wide variety of tours ranging from the mail tour to the moonlight tour, it’s a great and affordable way to see all the islands that surround Portland. On the mail tour you get the opportunity to ride on a real mail boat, hear the fun commentary and see supplies being delivered to residents of the small islands scattered around Casco Bay. With opportunities to get off at some of the smaller islands, the ferry tours are the best way to see what makes up the Portland Harbor.
